Tunnel Engineering - Project

About Us

To build tunnels and shafts safely and to line, grade and tolerance, with methods selected from honest interpretation of the ground rather than from what a schedule would prefer.

Who We Are

About Our Company

Microsim Tunnel Safety is a tunneling contractor delivering bored tunnels, sequentially excavated tunnels, shafts, microtunneling and pipe jacking, and tunnel rehabilitation. Our capability covers method selection and construction planning from geotechnical data, tunnel boring machine operations including segmental lining erection and grouting, sequential excavation with shotcrete, lattice girders, rock bolts and spiling, ground improvement by grouting, dewatering and ground freezing where conditions require, shaft sinking with secant pile, caisson and liner plate methods, ventilation and underground safety systems, and the instrumentation and monitoring programs that underground work in urban settings demands.

Microsim Tunnel Safety works with agencies, utilities and consultants near . Underground construction is governed by ground behavior more than by any other factor, and the most expensive mistakes come from committing to a method before the geology is properly understood. We read geotechnical baseline reports critically, identify where data is thin, and plan for the conditions that could reasonably be encountered rather than only the expected case. Our monitoring programs define response levels and the actions associated with each before excavation begins, so when an instrument reads high the response is a prepared plan rather than a site discussion under pressure.

Tunnel Engineering - Service

Core Capabilities

  • Ventilation, gas monitoring and egress are maintained on every shift.
  • As-built alignment and lining records are surveyed and issued at handover.
  • Shaft construction sequencing and support are designed and checked by engineers.
  • Segmental and sprayed linings are built to specified thickness and tolerance.
  • Method selection is based on ground investigation data and risk assessment.
  • Settlement and building movement are monitored against agreed trigger levels.

Tunnel Engineering - Client

Services

Ground conditions govern everything underground, so we invest in geotechnical review, baseline interpretation and contingency planning before committing to a method and schedule.

Our Process

How We Work

  1. 1

    Ground & Method Review

We study geotechnical data, groundwater conditions, surface constraints and existing utilities, then select methods and identify where conditions could differ from baseline.

  2. 2

    Planning & Instrumentation Design

Excavation sequence, support classes, ground improvement, ventilation and the monitoring program with response levels and actions are planned and agreed before work starts.

  3. 3

    Excavation & Support

Excavation proceeds with support installed per observed ground class, monitoring read on schedule, and advance parameters adjusted against instrument response.

  4. 4

    Lining, Finishing & Handover

Final lining, waterproofing, drainage and finishing works are completed, verified against specification, and handed over with as-built and monitoring records.

Our Services

Our Advantages

Why Clients Choose Us

Settlement Managed Actively

Face pressure, grouting and advance rate are controlled against surface readings, and compensation grouting is available where sensitive structures lie above.

Geotechnical Review Taken Seriously

We read baseline reports critically and identify where data is thin, because committing a method to assumed ground is how underground projects fail expensively.

Trenchless Where It Suits

For utility crossings we evaluate trenchless options honestly against open cut, including the risks each method carries in the particular ground involved.

Underground Safety Discipline

Ventilation, gas monitoring, ground control, refuge provisions, rescue arrangements and confined space procedures are managed to the standards underground work requires.

Response Plans Prepared In Advance

Monitoring thresholds come with predefined actions, so a high reading triggers a plan rather than an argument on site at two in the morning.

Experienced Underground Crews

Tunneling skill is built over years and cannot be improvised. Our crews and shift supervisors have worked through difficult ground and know the warning signs.

Experienced Underground Crews

Tunnelling is a trade learned underground. Our shift supervision has driven in similar ground, which is what keeps decisions quick and correct.

Records At Handover

As-built alignment, lining records, grout logs and monitoring history are surveyed, compiled and issued, because the asset outlives the contract.

Plans Ready Before Launch

Response plans for inflow, loss of face pressure and unexpected obstruction are written and resourced before the machine enters the ground.

Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Often yes, with work staged into closure windows and full reinstatement before reopening. This constrains productivity considerably and requires meticulous planning of material, equipment and clean-up within each window, but it avoids extended closure of a critical asset.

By exclusion or control, depending on ground. Closed-mode machines, grouting, cutoff walls, dewatering and ground freezing are all options. Permeability and grain size govern which techniques work, and dewatering near settlement-sensitive structures requires particular care.

It happens, which is why we plan for reasonably foreseeable variation and maintain contingency support classes and methods. Differing conditions have contractual implications too, and accurate records of what was encountered protect both parties in that discussion.

Through face pressure management, controlled advance rate, prompt and complete annulus grouting, and ground improvement or compensation grouting where structures are sensitive. Instrumentation with agreed response levels makes the control active rather than retrospective.

Primarily by ground and groundwater conditions, then by diameter, length, alignment constraints and what lies above. Bored tunneling suits long, consistent drives; sequential excavation suits variable ground and changing cross sections; trenchless methods suit shorter utility crossings. Ground data quality determines how confidently any choice can be made.

Mechanical ventilation, continuous gas monitoring, ground control procedures, communication systems, refuge arrangements, rescue capability and strict confined space and entry control. Underground work does not permit shortcuts, and every crew member is trained in the emergency procedures.
